warrock-stingerThe Stinger can be a very effective weapon when used correctly. This guide will explain some tips and tricks that I have discovered as I have shot down many Planes and Helicopters. After you have mastered it you can shoot down aircraft decently quick and you may even be accused of hacking. No worries though, remember that even if you are reported, if you are innocent: G1 will know the truth and you will be ok.

General Stinger Tips and Tricks in Warrock

  • As you probably know can be locked on to any (enemy) aircraft by holding shift when the craft is in the scope (right click). However: you may not know that it can stay locked on to that craft at all times even through walls and objects as long as you follow it continuously in the scope. This feature is best used for general tracking and waiting for the perfect shot. I recommend spotting the enemy in the sight when they cannot see you and holding shift until the locking gauge is about %90 full or very close to locked. Until the weapon has a lock, the enemy pilot’s lock warning is not going off. This gives you time to get ready for the perfect shot. The experienced pilot will evade or retreat when a lock warning is displayed.
  • The firing rate of the stinger is pretty ridiculous and can even give the pilot time to spot you and take you out. However, there is a trick to it that you may already know that can occasionally be very helpful. Right after your character fires the stinger your scope will disappear and he will begin reloading, the trick is to right click immediately after the scope disappears and establish a new lock as quick as you can. Hold your click down and as soon as the heavy is done reloading he will fire. This will allow you to accomplish a firing rate of about 1 every 4 seconds or so.
  • For all you amateurs out there: THE STINGER IS NOT AN ANTI-PERSONEL WEAPON! I feel silly writing this cause most of you reading this you probably know already. But I still laugh when in enter a CQC room and see a guy wielding a stinger around. Ironically though I was killed just the other day by one, but I hardly had even one bar.
  • For the most part, the best way to hunt any aircraft would be under cover of some sort. One of the best things you can do for yourself is to try to fire it without the enemy knowing where you are. It is also wise to position yourself near an ammo station whenever possible. Being that you can only carry three missiles. As I mentioned earlier, a lock on can be maintained through walls; so being under cover can hide you and give you a chance for that perfect shot at the craft.
  • I highly recommend headphones or ear buds. While the explosions and gunfire may sound sweet on your huge speakers with a subwoofer, headphones will allow you track a lot better without seeing the craft being that War Rock supports stereo sound. More about this point later. If you prefer your speakers more power to you, it’s just a suggestion.
  • In order to obtain maximum range, turn your world model to high under the graphics settings in the options menu if you don’t already. You will need to switch to custom if you need the others on a different level. This will enable you to see as far as possible. Turn any and all sharers off, because frankly, they are pointless and have the potential to slow your performance. If you have a lower end computer and/or have trouble running War Rock smoothly; Turn everything to low except for world model. It is best to have textures on at least medium because this will give you the ability to see through some gridded surfaces such as fences or grates (Also good for spotting snipers on Paragona). 16 bit color is hardly different from 32 bit and is easier for your system to process.
  • Being that the weapon locks on, it is possible to curve your shot slightly. This is good for around corners or over short walls. When the target is spotted behind such an object, aim over or around the object as much as the scope permits. There is a distance factor in it to but you will get the hang of that easily.

Warrock Online: Hunting the MD500: (The Little Helicopter)

warrock-md500As a powerful little guy, this helicopter is often the favorite of many due to its agility and firepower. This is possibly the most difficult craft to hunt when dealing with a skilled enemy pilot. This helicopter is taken down in 2 stinger shots when it has a full health. Due to its lethality; this one is best to hunt after it has encountered some damage. Over time the helicopter may bump into things or take on some damage from your comrades in one way or another. Therefore you may want to wait until the craft is retreating to go repair. Knowing when you can take it down in one shot is crucial. It is not a very durable craft so whenever you see smoke of any kind and especially fire, it is time to attack. Remember; just because you have a lock on, it is not a guarantee that it will contact the vessel. As with any aircraft, its vulnerability point is when it is traveling away from you. Again, this helicopter is very agile and can easily evade a missile so there is no big money shot. You can also hit it when it is coming toward you for the most part, although this probably means you will soon be dead so beware. As with any helicopter, it will displace a cloud of dust on the ground when flying at low altitudes; this is even visible inside a building as it passes over. This can help you determine its location. Listening is a big one, find a safe area and rotate you character around a few times and you will get a feel for where the vehicle is. The faster this helicopter is moving, the less likely your ordinance will contact it. You may find it lucrative to position yourself with a view of a landing pad, so you can shoot it down while it is weak and generally still.

Hunting the AH-64 Apache, and the UH-60 Blackhawk (and that one on crater)

warrock-apache-blackhawk

These can be very dangerous under the direction of a skilled pilot. Their vulnerability is that they are less agile, but no less fast so watch out. However the Apache is pretty maneuverable. These helicopters are taken down in 2 good stinger shots. Yes, even if you hit it, you may not have reached full damage potential. This can happen if you just barely catch it. All the same rules from the MD500 apply with a few additions. The UH-60 Blackhawk with missiles can be active with one occupant. The Blackhawk with machine guns has to contain at least two people (pilot, gunner) to be active. Therefore it is more commonly used for transportation to a location or another heli type. You need to work quickly in this case cause the will not be in it for long. When the pilot is flying up and dropping to fire the machine gun as some pilots do, try to lock on when they are on their way up because you will not be able two when they are in free fall. If you keep the lock when they are falling, aim a low for best chance of contact.

Hunting the CH-47 Chinook (The big fat ugly helicopter):

Not possible with the stinger, sorry. While it may be an easy target it is incredibly durable and can withstand like 8 stinger shots. It is almost always used for transportation but if its gun is also being used, it is very easy to avoid.

Hunting the F-15 Eagle, A-10 Warhog and the Rafale:

They may be difficult to distinguish but here are a few tips. The Rafale has a refueling probe in the front, a huge roundish underbody air intake, and only one stabilizer wing in the back. It is mainly a air-to-air combat vehicle so it offers little threat to you, however the skilled pilot can nail you with a few missiles if you are not careful. Always try to shoot one of these down if it is headed away from you. They go down in two decent stinger shots and are fairly easy to shoot down. Beware of the F-15 Eagle! The F-15 has no refueling probe in the front (realistically it would be on its back but that has no relevance), it has two square air intakes under each wing and two stabilizer wings in the back. (When I say stabilizer wings I mean the vertical ones because I can think of the exact name right now) This airplane (as well as the A-10) can drop bombs that are very powerful so you don’t want to make your location obvious. These aircraft are similar in maneuverability but the F-15 is slightly more agile due to its twin engine, thrust vectoring nozzles, and twin yaw wings. They are very fast (200+ MPH) but luckily your stinger missile is just a little faster. The amateur pilot will perform a large dive and dip maneuver to destroy a vehicle or person. In this event they may even slow down a bit or a lot giving you a great shot chance. The skilled pilot performs a less drastic maneuver to drop a bomb but may still slow down. Either way they typically travel very straight in these situations giving you a good chance of hitting them. Work quickly due to their speed and definitely use the firing speed trick I discussed. The A-10 Warthog is pretty slow and not nearly as agile as the other two. It has a thin body with a lowercase t type design. The main wings are small yet span fairly far, and the engines are two large commercial airliner style engines on the back next to the two stabilizer wings. Unfortunately, all aircraft show up as the same A-10 shaped figure on your MAP, but that is irrelevant since enemies don’t show up on there anyway.
