In Sword of the New World a.k.a. SOTNW, players can now use three characters at the same time thanks to the multi-character control (MCC) features of the game. There are five basic jobs or classes: Fighter, Musketeer, Wizard, Scout, and the Elementalist. Also called “stock” characters they can be created without the use of cards not like the the UPCs (Unique Player Character).
This character class is known for their strength, ability to tank and protect the weaker class of the team. This guide is created by LordKazu .
FIGHTER GUIDE

Overview
Fighters are the most versatile class in the game being able to adapt to any situation by having multiple stances. Having a fighter in your family gives you the ability to tank some of the more stronger mobs in the game. You can also use the fighters trait skill provoke in any stance allowing you to draw aggro from the mobs around you so your other family members like Wizard, Elementalist, scout and musketeer can catch a break. I will give an in-dept explanation on stances, PVP tactics, PVE and video’s of the stances in action.
Info on “stance”
Stances are what you use when holding a weapon. Stances level up just like you do but at a much faster pace but each new stance level takes more stance exp to level. stance exp is gained by killing mobs just the same as if you where getting exp to level. Each stance level gives you passive bonuses every time you stance level. Some may give bonuses at different stance levels and not every stance level. You get new skills every few stance levels but you always start out with 1 skill for most stances. Keep in mind some stances can be switched on the fly by simply clicking the next stance above your status bar provided that both stances need that weapon. Every stance has a max level of 25, every skill I show is at its maxed level which is 10. Each skill cost a number of skill points you will max every skill in a stance by the time you reach stance level 25. Some stances have more skill and you may not be able to max all the skills at stance level 25. Keep in mind that you get 1 point each stance level from stance level 2-4, 2 points for level 5-9, 3 points for level 10-14, 4 points for level 15-19, 5 points for 20-24 and 6 points for reaching 25. So in total you will have 79 points for skills keeping in mind that skills max level is 1 and each skill can req 1-3 points. your first skill should cost you 1 point other stance’s may req more for the first skill but your last skill will always cost 3 points and any others before that will cost 1-2 point’s, so its a good Idea to make sure you can max every skill before you go using points willy nilly.
Note: Skills cool downs are universal skills that come in stance level 1 or 4 have no cool down.
Stance level 8: 10 sec
Stance level 12: 15 sec
Stance level 16: 20 sec
SP cost Is universal too.
Stance level 1: 100 SP
Stance level 4: 150 SP
Stance level 8: 200 SP
Stance level 12: 250
Stance level 16: 300
Back guard
Level req: 1
Other stances that It can be changed with: High guard (must have shield on) Defender (also must have shield on)
Number of hits per normal attack: One
Stance Bonus: level 25 Back Back guard: +3% atk speed + 13 blocking
Weapon: Sword or Blunt Weapon ( shield can be used with it but is not required)
Skills:
Stance level 1 Deep Straight: Hits 1 adjacent target doing 655% dmg.
Stance level 4 Earth Tremor: Hits up to 3 adjacent targets doing 576% dmg to each target.
Stance level 8 Penta-Train: Hits 1 adjacent target doing 939% and does double dmg to [soft armour]
Stance level 16 Vortex Slash:Hits 1 adjacent target doing 1980% dmg.
PVP Tactics:
When using back back guard This is not much you can do tactics wise until you get high guard. What you can do until then is use Pentra -strike on any elementalist, musk and wizard since Their class uses Soft armour. Also should the person bunch up their team use earth tremor to knock all of them off their feet.
PVE Tactics:
Nothing much to do besides normal attack mob’s and use Earth Tremor when you have multiple mobs around.
Warning!: Blunt weapons can only be used at level 84+ and Defender stance is a veteran stance!
High guard
Level req: 12
Other req: Back guard level 6
Other stances that It can be changed with: Back guard
Number of hits per normal attack: one
Stance Bonus: High guard level 25 : +25 blocking
Weapon: Sword and shield
Skills:
Stance level 1 Slash Down: Hits one adjacent target doing 457% dmg.
Stance level 8 Guardian: +35 blocking but lowers movement speed by 30% and skills cannot be used for the duration of the skill. Last for 10 seconds. Personal buff.
Stance level 12 Pommel: Hits 1 adjacent target doing 1069% dmg and ignores Def on small and medium mobs does only 5 dmg to large.
Stance level 16 Stunning Skewer: Hits 1 adjacent target doing 1252% dmg with a 25% chance to stun the target.
PVP Tactics:
Since you now have High guard and back guard you can change stance with a simple click. With this new ability to change you can use high guard and use stunning skewer and if stun lands you can try to finish them with pommel or switch to back guard and use vortex slash.Another to note pommel will do more dmg than stunning skewer because it ignores all their def but stunning skewer still has a nice stun chance.
PVE Tactics:
When surrounded by mobs you can use provoke to get their attention all on your fighter then use Guardian and have another of your family members use an AOE skill (Area of effect) to kill them all. Works really well with an elementalist or wizard. If a boss happens to show up have no fear you will block most of their attacks the stun and then finish move still applies here for bosses should you choose to do so.
Warning!: Players are considered medium Right click a mob to look at its stats to see if it is large, medium or small.
Hack and Slash
Level req: 12
Other req: Back guard level 6
Other stances that It can be changed with: None.
Number of hits per normal attack: Two.
Stance Bonus: level 25 Hack and Slash: +15% atk speed +10% crit rate +10 blocking.
Weapon: Two swords (right click 2 times to but the other sword in left hand or drag it)
Skills:
Stance level 1 Hexen Dropper: Hits 1 Adjacent target doing 894% dmg.
Stance level 8 Dust devil: Hits 5 targets in a 2.5 meter range doing 425% dmg to each target.
Stance level 12 Gladiator’s Bane: Hits 1 adjacent target doing 1383% dmg and ignores 25 Def.
Stance level 16 Violent Shooting Star: Hits 1 adjacent target doing 2284% dmg with a 30% chance of fear.
PVP Tactics:
Hack and Slash is powerful chance and even with its small blocking chance the fact that you have it period is great. Much like Earth Tremor Dust Devil is great when they bunch up. I suggest you use save Violent shooting star for your enemy’s strongest family member (most of the time the fighter) And use Gladiator’s Bane on the other members and Hexen dropper as an opening skill.
PVE Tactics:
Stick to normal attacks and only use Dust Devil when mobs gang up on you.
Warning!: Dust Devil is not a targeted skill you use it where ever you stand because the move is a large spin slash at 5 targets around you.
Escrima
Level req: 1
Other req: None
Other stances that It can be changed with: None.
Number of hits per normal attack: Three.
Stance Bonus: Escrima level 25: +15 Atk speed +20% Crit rate +15% Evasion.
Weapon: Dagger.
Skills:
Stance level 1 Rajar en Recta: Hits 1 adjacent target doing 867% dmg.
Stance level 4 Dagger Venenosa: Gives you a 30% chance of poisoning a target with basic attacks last 60 sec. Personal buff.
Stance level 8 Baile Soleares: Hits 1 adjacent target doing 2358% dmg.
Stance level 12 Ligera Ventaja: Hits 5 targets in 8m with a 0.6 radius doing 619% dmg (has a chance of stun but percent chance of the stun is unknown)
Stance level 16 ilimitada Sierra: Hits 1 adjacent target doing 2046% dmg and ignores 30 def.
PVP Tactics:
When the battle starts cast Dagger Venenosa right off the bat and rush in and close in the distance while also attack them with Ligera Ventaja. Should any of their toons be stunned attack them first till you can land poison with normal attacks or until their HP is half and finish them with ilimitada Sierra or Baile Soleares. another thing you can do while they are stunned is to soften them up for a quick death by using Rajar en Recta.
PVE Tactics:
Stick to basic attacks and cast Dagger venenosa when you feel like adding some fun to it. Use Ligera Ventaja when there are multiple mobs attacking you.
Warning!: Remember how I said some stances you won’t be able to max all the skills in? Well this is one of them. I recommend that you max every other skill first then add to dagger venenosa.
Warning!: You can only dodge melee attacks! Not bullet based attacks and magic
Note: While people say daggers are bad at higher level due to Rapiers having higher dmg skill daggers will always remain the fastest weapon a fighter can use allowing for you to lock people in stun with a dagger that has a stun chance on it.
Middle guard
Level req: 12.
Other req: None.
Other stances that It can be changed with: None.
Number of hits per normal attack: One.
Stance Bonus: level 25 Middle guard: +25% Atk speed +8% crit rate.
Weapon: Saber.
Skills:
Stance level 4 Crescent Moon: Hits one target in a range of 6m doing 350% dmg.(Can hit flying targets too.)
Stance level 8 Grind Cutter: Hits one adjacent target doing 772% dmg.
Stance level 16 Assassinate: Hits 5 targets in a 4m distance and a 1m radius doing 492% dmg
PVP Tactics:
I don’t recommend it for PVP because of its lack of power. Should you use middle guard in PVP use moon blade till your in range to use grind cutter on them then use assassinate if they bunch up.
PVE Tactics:
I think Middle guard shines here. You have the ability to take down flying mobs with moon blade and a decent AOE and grind cutter for pesky elite mobs and Sigmunds.
Blandir Cruz
Level req: 24
Other req: None.
Other stances that It can be changed with: None
Number of hits per normal attack: 1 (Hits up to 5 targets with normal attacks)
Stance Bonus: Level 25 Blandir Cruz: +25% Atk speed +10% crit rate +10 blocking.
Weapon: Pole-Arm
Skills:
Stance level 1 Blandir Cadena: Hits one adjacent target doing 1044% dmg and does double dmg to metal armor.
Stance level Gigante Marcha: Hits 5 adjacent targets doing 729% dmg.
Stance level 16 Tierra Choque: Hits 5 Adjacent targets doing 961% dmg with a 30% chance of stun. ( Has a cast time of about 2 sec)
PVP Tactics:
If you know that your opponent has metal armor on one of his toons attack him/her first with Blandir Cadena. stick to using Gigante Marche when they are all bunched up and as they are getting up from the attack use Tierra Choque. If any family members get stunned attack them with Blandir Cadena.
PVE Tactics:
Since this stance is heavily based on AOE use both of your AOE skill whenever you are surrounded. your basic attacks will work wonders since it is AOE as well.
Warning!: Tierra Choque is a targeted AOE and that means you have to click on the area where you want it to land.
Plow guard
Level req: 24.
Other req: None.
Other stances that It can be changed with: Roof guard and Sidewinder.
Number of hits per normal attack: One.
Stance Bonus: +15% Atk speed +12% crit rate +10 blocking
Weapon: Great Sword
Skills:
Stance level 1 Charge: Hits 1 adjacent target doing 450% and ignores 20 def.
Stance level 8 Vertical Slash: Hits one adjacent target doing 428% dmg to small targets, 857% to medium targets and 1285% to large targets. ( has a 2 sec cast time)
Stance level 12 Skyliner: Hits 6 adjacent Targets doing 379% dmg.
Stance level 16 Highlander Soul: +20% Atk +25 blocking -20 def last 40 sec. Personal buff. (Uses 1 Mitridart)
PVP Tactics:
I like to cast highlander soul at the start or when I feel the need to in the middle of battle. Its a good idea To charge the first person you see or use skyliner when they bunch up. Vertical slash should be used on the fighter first. highlander soul can offer a great defense by giving you 40+ blocking and its well worth the 20 def less that it gives as well as boosting your atk up.
PVE Tactics:
Normal attacks and use skyliner when ganged. For bosses use highlander soul to tank its hits and if its large use vertical slash for some massive dmg.
Roof guard
Level req: 36.
Other req: Plow guard level 8
Other stances that It can be changed with: Plow guard.
Number of hits per normal attack: One.
Stance Bonus: +30% Atk speed +6% crit
Weapon: Great Sword
Skills:
Stance level 8 Dread Worm: Hit 5 targets 9M away in a 0.6 m radius doing 300% dmg with a 50% chance of fear. (2.5 sec cast time)
Stance level 12 Genocide: Hits 1 adjacent target doing 985% dmg.
Stance level 16 Fury: +25% Atk speed +25% Movement speed -20 def last 40 sec. personal buff. (Uses 1 Analeptic Remedy)
PVP Tactics:
Since you have Roof guard and Plow guard you can get a bit more tactical. Using dread worm takes practice but if you can get it off on all their family members you can cast fear on all of them and throw the duel straight into your favor. Using fury can greatly boost your speed allowing you too pick your target off while they’re on their backs after you use genocide And the move speed boost can get you to your magic casting targets to intercept their cast times with genocide.
PVE Tactics:
Normal attacks as always and Dread worm when ganged up on.
Heaven and Hell
Level req: 40
Other req: None.
Other stances that It can be changed with: None.
Number of hits per normal attack: 3 (2 slashes and 1 pistol shot)
Stance Bonus: +30% Atk speed +6% crit.
Weapon: Sword, Pistol and Pistol bullets.
Skills:
Stance level 1 Pistol Shot: Hits 1 target in a 8m range doing 200% dmg. (Cost no SP to use!! and uses 3 bullets And can hit flying targets)
Stance level 4 Slash Down: Hits one adjacent target doing 457% dmg
Stance level 8 Deadly Infinitum: Hits 1 Adjacent target doing 1708% (uses 1 bullet)
Stance level 12 Grind Cutter: Hits one adjacent target doing 772% dmg.
Stance level 16 Raging hell: Hits 6 targets 6.5m away in a 2m radius doing 1070% dmg. (Uses 10 bullets)
PVP Tactics:
This stance has many uses, Use Raging Hell when your opponents are in range to knock them all down and when they get up hit their strongest with Deadly Infinitum to finish them and then you can attack the others with grind cutter and slash down respectively.
PVE Tactics:
Normal attacks (Not much is gonna change eh?) and use raging hell when grouped and Pistol shot the flying mobs.
Note: The Slash down is a level 4 skill it has no cool down and only uses 100 SP the same way it does in high guard.
Warning!: You will not max all the skill in the stance unless you do the following before even getting the stance: Max slash down in high guard and max grind cutter in middle guard because skill that are the same in 2 or more stances carry over so you don’t have to worry about maxing them in a different stance all over again. Also even the Deadly infinitum and Raging hell uses bullets it can still be dodged, Left shoot cant be.
Epee garde
Level req: 48
Other req: None.
Other stances that It can be changed with: Saber garde
Number of hits per normal attack: Two (Its a piercing attack that hits 2 targets)
Stance Bonus: +16% Atk speed +20% crit rate.
Weapon: Rapier
Skills:
Stance level 1 Fente: Hits 1 adjacent target doing 812% dmg
Stance level 8 Sept Etoiles: Hits 1 adjacent target doing 1303% dmg and does double dmg to Soft armour (leather armour)
Stance level 12 Balestra Fente: Hits 3 targets 5.5m away in a 0.6 radius doing 1026% dmg.
Stance level 16 Cent-Ennui: Hits 1 adjacent target doing 2559% dmg
PVP Tactics:
Balestra Fente is a good skill to begin with because you can knock their whole team down. As they are getting up hit their fighter or UPC class with Sept Etolies if they are wearing leather armor for double dmg and then hit any other of their toons with Cent-Ennui and use Fente when needed. Also if your chasing someone who’s running get right behind them and you can Intercept them with Balestra Fente.
PVE Tactics:
Normal attacks only. Balestra Fente hits only 3 targets so its not really worth it unless you wanna mix it up a bit.
Saber garde
Level req: 48.
Other req: None
Other stances that It can be changed with: Epee garde
Number of hits per normal attack: Two (Its a piercing attack that hits 2 targets)
Stance Bonus: +15% Evasion +8% Atk speed
Weapon: Rapier
Skills:
Stance level 1 Tete: Hits 1 Adjacent target doing 702% dmg with a 25% chance of stun.
Stance level 4 Evasion: Evasion +20 for 30 sec. Personal buff.
Stance level 8 Attaque Compose: Hits 1 adjacent target doing 1266% dmg and does double dmg to Light Armour.
Stance level 16 Esquive Touch: Hits 1 adjacent target doing 2607% dmg.
PVP Tactics:
Having both Epee and Saber garde allows for multiple finishing moves to be used be simply switching stances. Use Attaque Compose on musketeer, elementalist and Wizards. Use evasion when a fighter is present so you can dodge most of his attacks while you go after the other family members. mix this with with Epee garde’s tactics and you have a great offense and defense.
PVE Tactics:
Normal Attacks and use evasion every now and then so you can dodge more attacks. Or you can use provoke and use evasion after so you can draw the aggro and dodge most of their attacks while you power up an AOE.
Warning!: You can only dodge melee attacks! Not bullet based attacks and magic.
Veteran stances:
Sidewinder
Level req: Veteran
Other req: level 25 Plow guard and 50 Mega Aidanium and a Rare combat book to create the stance book.
Other stances that It can be changed with: Roof guard and Plow guard
Number of hits per normal attack: 2 ( Hits 5 targets)
Stance Bonus: +15% Atk speed +6% crit rate.
Weapon: Great Sword
Skills:
Stance level 1 Sweet Dreamer: Hits 1 adjacent target doing 631% dmg.
Stance level 8 Ultimate Dash: Hits 8 targets 5.6m away in a 1m radius doing 459% dmg.
Stance level 16 Decision: Hits 5 adjacent targets doing 1208% dmg.
PVP Tactics:
Use Ultimate Dash to close in the range and hit them at the same time or you can use decision there is not much you can do with the stance alone so mix it in with Plow guard and roof guard for a great offence and defense.
PVE Tactics:
Since the stance is AOE friendly you will use normal attacks and use ultimate dash and decision when ganged up on.
Advance garde
Level req: Veteran
Other req: Epee guard level 25/ 50 mega Etretanium and a rare book on combat.
Other stances that It can be changed with: None.
Number of hits per normal attack: 3 (2 slashes 1 pistol shot)
Stance Bonus: +20 Atk speed +10% crit rate.
Weapon: Rapier, Pistol and pistol bullets
Skills:
Stance level 1 Arme Bullet: Hits 1 target 8m away doing 658% dmg ( uses 5 pistol bullets and uses no SP!!)
Stance level 4 Croix Fente: Hits 1 adjacent target doing 940% dmg.
Stance level 12 Entrer en Lices: Hits 3 adjacent targets doing 1867% dmg ( Hits flying targets and uses 5 bullets)
Stance level 16 Mortal Eternity: Hits 1 adjacent target doing 3060% dmg.
PVP Tactics:
A huge improvement for fighters! Using Entrer en Lices is great to start with because you will hit flying wizards and his grounded team mates. Mortal eternity should be saved for their fighter or strongest family member while you can also use Criox Fente to finish of any survivors.
PVE Tactics:
Use normal attacks and use arme bullet to hit flying targets.
Defender
Level req: Veteran
Other req: Level 25 High guard/50 Ioniums and rare combat book.
Other stances that It can be changed with: Back guard.
Number of hits per normal attack: 1
Stance Bonus: +25 block
Weapon:Blunt weapon
Skills:
Stance level 1 Dull Attack: Hits 1 Adjacent target doing 264% dmg with a 25% chance of stun.
Stance level 8 Complete Protection: +30 blocking -50% move speed and and all magic res -20 last 10 sec. Personal buff.
Stance level 12 Tremendous: Hits 5 adjacent targets doing 571% dmg and Ignores 50 def.
Stance level 16 Massive Charge: hits 1 adjacent target doing 1278% dmg.
PVP Tactics:
Using dull attack over and over to land stun is a great idea also you use Tremendous when they are together to knock ‘em all back and do considerable dmg. Combine this with guards tactics and you can have a good defense.
PVE Tactics:
Same tactics as high guard but now you can use your AOE skill Tremendous!
Stave guard
Level req: Veteran
Other req: Blandir Cruz level 25/ 50 Ionium and rare book on combat.
Other stances that It can be changed with: None.
Number of hits per normal attack: once.
Stance Bonus: +20% atk speed +12% crit rate +10 blocking
Weapon: Javelin and shield (Optional)
Skills:
Stance level 1 Rapid Reach: Hits 1 adjacent target doing 630% dmg and ignores 20 def
Stance level 8 Allegretto: +15% crit rate +25% Atk speed -20 def last 40 sec. personal buff.
Stance level 12 Piercing Breeze: Hits 5 targets 8m away in a 0.6 radius doing 821% dmg. ( 2 sec cast time)
Stance level 16 Zenith: Hits 1 adjacent target doing 2402% dmg and ignores 50 def.
PVP Tactics:
There is not much you can do besides use Zenith on their strongest family member and spam rapid reach after or use Piercing breeze. You can use Allegretto to pick up the pace and attack them mad fast and crit them almost all the time.
PVE Tactics:
Normal attacks(sigh..) and use piercing breeze when ganged up on.
Low Guard
Level req: Veteran
Other req: Middle Guard level 25/25 Mysterious powders and 30Explorer team memo’s
Other stances that It can be changed with: Middle Guard
Number of hits per normal attack: 2
Stance Bonus: 30% atk speed 12% crit
Weapon: Saber
Skills:
Stance level 1: Triskelion hits 1 target within 7m doing 853% dmg. (hits flying targets as well.)
Stance level 4: saber charge hits 5 targets in a 6m radius X 100Cm depth doing 410% dmg.
Stance level 12: Suspense Violation Hits 3 Adjacent targets doing 1071% dmg and double dmg to Soft armor.
Stance level 16: Tearing Alternate hits 1 adjacent target doing 2446% dmg and ignores 50 def.
PVP Tactics:
Trisklion is a great skill to use on elementalist and any other classes with 4 con because its almost a guaranteed 1 shot but if that’s not the case start your opening with saber charge to knock them down and use suspense violation if you can to 1 hit any of the soft armor users such as musk, wiz and ele. tearing alternate should be used on their strongest members like fighters also I have tested this but tearing alternate can penetrate proc field on 4 con people andor even 5 and 6 and can even cut through Energy shield.
PVE Tactics
I’m pretty sure you know the answer..
Mighty Cruz
Level req: Veteran
Other req: Blandir Cruz level 25/25 Mysterious Powders.
Other stances that It can be changed with: Blandir cruz
Number of hits per normal attack: 1
Stance Bonus: 30% atk speed 12% crit 10% block.
Weapon: Pole arm.
Skills:
Stance level 4 Sharp Scythe hits 5 targets in a 6m radius X 1m depth doing 540% dmg.
Stance level 8 Energetic Boom (2 sec cast time) hits 6 nearby targets doing 1105% dmg double dmg to metal and ignores 30 def.
Stance level 12 Savage Hash hits 1 adjacent target doing 2597% dmg and ignores 40 def.
Stance level 16 Demonic Discharge (He he) Hits 6 nearby targets doing 1266% dmg double dmg to metal and ignores 50 def.
PVP Tactics:
Pretty much start of with sharp scythe but hell go with Demonic discharge if you want Savage hash any fighters but Energetic boom is great for anti rezzing. When a person only has their scout left chase them down and when they reach their rezzing target use energetic boom and right as the 2 seconds of cast is over you hit both the scout and the ressed target and since you start off at 50% HP when ressed you will kill the scout and the target its rezzing.
PVE Tactics:
all your skills are AOE perfect for leveling! Go wild with it!
Notice: Any vet stances that have ignore def on a skill are perfect for penetrating field of protection and Energy shield.
