For some Atlantica Online players, King’s Judgement may be a bit of a blur. Fortunately, Talrea of Atlantica online forums has whipped up a guide about that feature.

What is King’s Judgment?

King’s Judgment (KJ) is a system that allows the King of a nation or those who can act with the King’s authority (Guild leaders of that nation) to punish a player arbitrarily for actions the King or the guild leader deems intolerable. When King’s Judgment is used on a player, a server-wide notice is sent out notifying everyone of the King’s Judgment attempt, who initiated it, who is being punished, and the nations of both, if applicable:

This message explains the circumstances of the King’s Judgment. In this example, the person using the King’s Judgment, Talrea, is a guild leader of the WingsOfRedemption nation. The person on the receiving end of the King’s Judgment, AshleyAn, is not in a Nation. If the victim is in a Nation, this will be indicated in the announcement. These announcements are frequently cut off by the text length limit, so not all of this information will be present in each announcement.

How does King’s Judgment work?

A King’s Judgment is true PvP – No Free League rules apply. The fight is more or less the same as any PvE fight in structure; the person who initiated the fight always goes first. The main difference is the character usage limit, which is similar to Free League rules: You can only use one character on your first turn, then two, then three, et cetera. Another interesting quirk of King’s Judgment is the tendency of nearby mobs to jump into the fight on a random side, filling up a slot that might otherwise be used for reinforcements – This means the defending party is always at a disadvantage, since the attacking party typically starts out with three high-level people, and if a mob joins on the defender’s side, that’s one less space for a player to enter. The goal of a King’s Judgment, of course, is to kill the other side. Any time a player dies, retreats, or logs out in a King’s Judgment, there is a chance that they will lose one currently-equipped item, which will be sent to the winner’s nation warehouse; there is an announcement for this too:

This item loss can be prevented if the person who lost has a Secret Vial of Protection active. If the person who wins is not in a nation, the prize will go directly to their inventory and there will be no announcement.

Who can use King’s Judgment?

The requirements for King’s Judgment are deliberately set high, to prevent it being used for simple griefing or item theft. In order for a person to use King’s Judgment, they must meet all of the following criteria:
1) They must be a guild leader
2) They must be in a Nation
3) That Nation must be at least level 5
4) They must be at least level 100
5) They must have full (125%) Will
6) Their guild must control a town
7) They must be close to the person they wish to attack
8) The target must not be in a safe area (Safe areas include towns, Hainan Island, and Free League areas)
9) Their nation must not be actively at war
10) The target must not be in battle already

Additionally, King’s Judgment can only be used by any one person ten times a day.

Who gets attacked with King’s Judgment?

The most common question I hear after explaining King’s Judgment to people is ‘Do I have to worry about being KJ’d?’ In almost all cases, the answer is no. Because of its high requirements and limited usage, King’s Judgment is relatively rare. There are typically only four situations where King’s Judgment is used:

1) Killing botters. This is the most common and most basic use of King’s Judgment. On Macedon at least, 95-99% of all King’s Judgment announcements are people killing bots.
2) Town security. Many people will not bid on towns controlled by a powerful Nation because that Nation will usually hunt them down and use King’s Judgment on their members in retaliation. Nations do this to ensure the security of their holdings, and it is one of the main reasons that town control remains relatively static over long periods.
3) Nation warfare. If two nations are at war, they will often use King’s Judgment on each other until the war proper starts. Even tense relations result in the odd King’s Judgment in an attempt to provoke a war.
4) Offending a Nation leader. Persistent idiocy, constant annoyance, causing a Nation dungeon to fail, these are all things that might result in a King’s Judgment. This category makes up most cases where a Nation KJ’s one of their own members.

Anything else to know about King’s Judgment?

Nope, that’s more or less all there is to it. I hope this guide has proven useful!
