Assassin class is one of the challenging class in Aion online. Thankfully here’s a PVP guide that would greatly give you some ideas in knowing the mechanics on Aion Assassin.

Note: This guide is created by Jakers of Aion Source Forums.

Aion Online Assassin Guide for PvP (Elyos)

I’ve seen some talk of the Assassin being “The worst class for PvP!!!!” All I have to say to this is, you are wrong.

If you are new to the Assassin class, PLEASE read this guide first. It is quite magnificent.

Assassin FAQ – Compendium of a Sin

First of all, I’d like to say that Assassin is probably the most gear hungry class there is. You need excellent equipment to survive in the Abyss, or other PvP zones. I won’t get into too much detail (maybe later), but just know you’ll need all blue to epics for endgame PvP purposes. Expect to do many instance runs and PvE Guard farming, rift partying, etc. for your fabled and blue items.

Let me talk a little bit about how the Assassin class works in PvP. I’ll start off by saying assassin is probably the most difficult class to play during PvP when faced with a player of a similar skillset and level (those guys who just won’t go down). You have to time your attacks perfectly, and stun only when it is needed. Is the cleric casting a heal? You either need to stun immediately or silence, or you risk starting from the beginning (They won’t run out of mana on you, trust me!) You acquire silencing skills at lvl 50. You also get a spelldoding skill at lvl 42, in which you can ‘dodge’ two magical attacks (how useful is that?). Note that the assassin is all about the ‘current state’ of the battle. If your reactions aren’t quick, or you can’t move around the target and quickly retarget him, I do not suggest playing the assassin class.

Your reaction timing is vital to your success.

The hardest fight you will probably encounter is the Templar. Why the Templar? Why not cleric or etc.? The Templar can take all of your DPS you throw at it (tank) from your assassination, and turn around to whomp you. How do you escape this? Please, you tell me. They are very difficult, so I don’t recommend taking on one with high gear and high level. Your only chance is getting enough damage in so that they cannot start their chain of attacks on you.

PvP Weapons:
Should I use a dagger and sword, or go with dagger/dagger? How about sword/sword?

Dagger Dagger (Quoted from Vinvinni): You are lowering your damage by using dagger-dagger…
The speed of your auto attacks is determined ONLY by your Main Hand…so it’s ideal to have a sword in offhand because it does more damage but also is attached to the 1.2s swing time of your Main Hand.

Dagger/Off Sword:Many excellent assassins use a dagger as their primary weapon, and the sword as their offhand. Why do this, you might ask? Well, is it elementary to the pro’s. The dagger allows you to have crit speed, as well as higher levels of damages with your off-hand strikes. I’d like other (40+ assassins) input on this.

Sword/Sword?: (Quoted from Vinvinni) Dagger MH + Sword OH is best until you reach 450* crit rating. If you can maintain 450* crit cap while using Sword-Sword…your damage will increase significantly compared to Dagger-Sword at same crit amount for both PVE and PVP. The advantages of Dagger-Sword in PvE is

1) you have 50 free crit to work with and 2) faster auto weaving.

Buffing:

I cannot stress this enough. Buffing is the key to your PvP success. If you do not buff before a battle when the player is anywhere near being decent or on and near your level, you have a much lower rate of survival. Personally, there is five buffs I must cast IMMEDIATELY BEFORE ATTACK.

(I notice this section is under a lot of fire. Buffing can easily take down a target much quicker than without the buffs. I realize you will not always be able to buff fully and then attack, so I suggest at least casting Poison before your attack, so the target cannot fly away right when you start the ganking.)

I shall list these in the order I apply them:

  1. Flurry. (20% faster attack is a HUGE increase in your overall damage for the fight.)
  2. Clear Focus. (Boost your crit rate by 100, it will be higher endgame)
  3. Scolopen Poison or Lethal Poison. (THIS. IS. A. MUST. It can make or break your successful ‘assassination’. You poison the target, allowing it to not be able to fly away. Of course, they can easily break out of this with a potion, but hopefully this will buy you enough time for a stun skill.)
  4. Killer’s Eye. (You get one good shot in. don’t ruin it.)
  5. Devotion (You know that one good shot from Killer’s eye? Yeah, don’t ruin it.)

Although this is NOT considered a buff, per se, it is the next step right before your attack; hide. You will need to get behind the target to begin. Try not to use your Ambush skill just yet, if possible, you will need it for the fight!!

The Fight

The Cliffs Version (Ground Attack!):

  1. Buffs
  2. Hide
  3. Backstab
(Vaizel’s Dirk if lvl 50 and have the DP for it would come next after backstab. Why this move? It is the equivalent of two backstabs, aka a ton of damage.)
  4. Focused Evasion (continuous, cast when needed. Note that focused evasion should come right before a big attack from melee or magical class.)
  5. Rune Chain to level five
(Might cast filler move Swift Edge Chain here)
  6. Detonate Runes (a tough choice. Either put them in the air to buy time to buff or rebuff, and throw some massive damage down; or stun the target. If the enemy is a magical class, I suggest you consider silencing your target from the detonation.)
Note: You may also choose to heal at this point. I put detonation healing in last place. It is not going to help you nearly as much as a stun, air bind, or silence. If you’re on your last stretch of life, you might choose to heal.
  7. Whirlwind Slash (if applicable) or Counterattack ((if applicable))
  8. Weakning Blow from behind
  9. Begin Rune Chain again to lvl 5
  10. Filler moves (Swift Edge chain)
  11. Now is the time to use ambush, especially if the target is weak and running away. Ambush gives you the chance for a stun, along with instantly teleporting to the back of the target. If your backstab is already cooled down, use it again.
  12. Start your rune chain again, to level five. See the repetition here?
  13. Detonate Runes and choose the best choice for your current state (see above)

Also: make note of your Weakening blow move. If you are able to get behind a stunned/air binded target for a second time, use this skill. It will decrease their ability to evade your attacks (useful against other assassins and magical classes especially. Why not templar or gladiator? They use parry and block more so than Evade.)

Tips:

  • You do not get a good aerial combat move until 50. Deal with it. Stun the target as much as possible to prevent him from running away, as well as poisoning the target in the beginning of battle. This goes hand in hand with silence skills, you don’t get them until 50.
  • You also aquire Throw Shuriken from a stigma skill. I highly recommend you invest in this.
Aion Armory Item – Throw Shuriken I – - Aion
  • Stock up on instant health potions. Assassins life can drop quickly, and this can give you a major advantage in battle.
  • Use Greater Healing Potions. This allows you to get out of certain physical altered states. However, you cannot get out of Sleep/Tree/CC moves in general.
  • Get speed boots. Get speed boots. If the target is running, you need to be able to catch up. With 20% speed boots and your ability to run 20% faster, novices can’t run from you.
  • Save up your PvP AP points for items to use in Player versus Player combat.
  1. Don’t buy the + attack speed gloves. These can be easily crafted by someone.
  2. I recommend the lvl 30 epic accessories for the Assassin. (2) Rings, (2) Earrings, and (1) Necklace.
    Guardian Squad Leader’s Aquamarine Ring
    Guardian Squad Leader’s Aquamarine Necklace
    Guardian Squad Leader’s Aquamarine Earring

With these accessories alone, you will do an extra 9% damage to Player Characters in combat.

This might be hard to follow, but it is exactly how I go about my PvPing. If you can make it through this list, you’ll do great in battle =D
