Vampires Basic Game Mechanics

Hey everyone, I know, there’s lots of newbie guides and stuff, but I just wanted to get your take on things. I’ve been playing for a little over a week now, and I think that this is one of Zynga’s best games.

Yes, it’s got plenty of bugs and issues (they all do), including the whole “bot” banning…

But, overall, it’s a lot of fun, and has a lot of different areas to take advantage of to keep it fun.

If I’ve missed any, please let me know. Also, I’ll list a few that I haven’t found that correspond to an existing feature in Street Racing (another Zynga game that I play). If you know where these features are in VW, please let me know.

  1. Akem’s Gamble – once a day, you get to get a free ability. I wouldn’t waste FP’s on them, but you can get Legendary abilities if you’re lucky
  2. Blood Magic – every 4 hours, you can spin Mandy’s wheel and earn buffs that help you and your fellow clansmen. Beware of the curse though, but I’ve never been cursed when my blood on hand was under 100k
  3. Vampire Santa – gift any ability you want (including Fangs) and you get a small chance at receiving a Pyrokinesis (55/15) a potent offensive ability with no upkeep. There’s also trophies for receiving 10, 150, 275, and 500 Pyros from VSanta, so keep gifting!
  4. LE Abilties – from time to time, a potent ability is available for a lot (35) of FPs. I guess these are good if you’re a collector, but if you’re just trying to build up your army, it’ll take a long time to get 501 of them
  5. SE Abilities – I haven’t seen these, do they exist? An ability that you can purchase for every 2 clan you add?
  6. Akem’s Treasure – unlock padlocks by returning to the game each day, and after a few days, you unlock a treasure chest with decent treasure inside. Don’t forget to come back every day, or a padlock resets when you miss a day.
  7. Build up your stats – Attack, Defense, Energy (for Missions), Health, Rage (for Combat). You get 5 stat points per level to allocate. In addition, you get 1 bonus stat point for mastering a mission, and some of the trophies give you a free stat point along with the favor point.
  8. Watch your other stats grow -Skill ranking – become the ULTIMATE combat god Vampire by clawing and biting your way up the Combat rankings.

Missions Completed - personally, I don’t care about this #, but it does grow; I think that the person with the lowest # of missions for a given level is a more efficient player

Fights Won/Fights Lost – Try to get your Fights Won count as high as possible, and your ratio as high as possible. I try to keep mine above 7:1 if possible.

Death/Kills – Try to get your Kills as high as possible, and keep your Death as low as possible. I like my Death to be at most 1/3 of my level, and keep my Kills at least >= Death

  9. Edit your avatar – you can change how you look; can spend time, blood and favor points here. I think this is a lot of fun. Make sure you wait til there’s an avatar sale so you get double your bang for your FP buck!
  10. Trophies – these are very cool. There’s 69 of them, and they track your progress through the game. Each time you complete the requirements for a trophy, you earn it, and then you get a favor point, and sometimes you also get a bonus stat point (I haven’t figured out which all give the second bonus). When you earn a trophy, you don’t need to keep the stuff there, and you’ll keep the trophy. For example, there’s a trophy for putting blood in the bank. If you put 100k in the bank, you get a trophy. Remember, you have actually deposit the 100k, so you really need to deposit 111,112 in the bank so that after the fee you still deposit 100k. Also, you can claim multiple trophies at once, for example, if you’ve never deposited a drop of blood into the blood bank, and you deposit 111,111,112 you’ll get all 3 trophies at once, which is effectively like getting 3 favor points for the cost of 11,111,111 blood. Not a bad deal!
  11. Grow your clan! – getting 501 clan in this game is essential to your success. Each clan member can use one offensive, one defensive, and one movement ability in each combat. Therefore, every time you add a new member, you’re boosting your combat strength significantly! While you can only have 501 clan that contribute in a battle for you, having more than 501 will give you the chance at more Blood Magic bonuses.A few tips for growing your clan:

    A) On the Combat Screen, if you see a player with a large clan and a high combat skill rank, instead of attacking them, just send them a friend request and ask to join their clan
    B) On your news feed, anyone that attacks you, bounties you, or claims your bounty, send them a friend request and ask them to join their clan
    C) On your clan wall, post that you’d like your clan to add you and share your link with their friends
    D) Join an Add Me thread or Group

  12. Gift your clan – give abilities to your clan members. Theoretically, this can be used for trading as well, but it’s basically a way to send abilities around to members that need help. They’ll usually post on the clan wall what they need, and if you can help them out, it’s greatly appreciated. In addition, you can get a special gift from Vampire Santa, a Pyrokinesis attack ability, so it pays to be generous! There’s also 4 trophies based on your generosity, so GIVE GIVE GIVE.
  13. Write on your clan wall, and read other peoples’ posts. Try not to spam the wall, but this is a good place to look for new members to add. Also, you can ask for help if someone is attacking you, or you can offer up excess abilities and people can then request them from you.
  14. Missions – You’re going to spend a lot of time and energy on missions. Missions are a way to get blood, exp, and rare abilities. In addition, when you master each individual mission, you get 1 stat point, and when you master all of the missions in a Tier (Fledgling, Neophyte, Adept and Savant) you get a trophy and a new title. Each mission an energy cost, many have ability prerequisites, and some have clan member count prereqs as well. Once you’ve mastered a given mission, you don’t need to keep the prereq abilities if you’re not going to redo the mission. Also, there are 3 blood magics which affect missions: Increased blood from missions, increased exp from missions, and increased chance of rare abilities found. When you get increased rare abilities, make sure you do missions that have the best abilities. When you get increased blood and exp, do the missions that have the highest blood/energy or exp/energy ratios to take advantage. However, note that the extra exp is rounded down, so +25% exp on 2 exp is still 2 exp, so it’s advantageous to do higher exp missions.
  15. Boss Fight – Defeat Baba Yaga. At the bottom of the Fledgling tier, there’s a Boss Fight. You only need to defeat him once to win the trophy. Beyond that, it’s really not worth it. Defeating him is a little tough, you’ll need to buff up your clan before you can win. The prize isn’t worth much, and the special ability that can be won is nothing special either (Cat’s Grace, Control Bear Clan, or Eagle Eye).
  16. Daily Recruitment Gifts – There are 3 gifts, Blood Letting (offense), Premonition (Defense) and Shadow Conceal (Movement). The best is Premonition, because Pyrokinesis is better than Blood Letting, and Move Silently is better than Shadow Conceal. So, every time you’re given the option to gift your clan, choose Premonition, and send out to your clan. They’ll be grateful, and some will send back.
  17. Combat – I’m going to talk about this in the next post, as this is a huge topic! I’ll cover the Fight List, the Hit List, and the Leader Board.
  18. Bazaar – I’m going to talk about this in the 3rd post, as this is another huge topic. I’ll cover the purchasable Abililities, Mastering Abilities, Minions, and the Avatar shop.
  19. Elders – The council – you go here to earn favor points through completing free or paid advertisements for the game. Once you’ve earned favor points (leveling, trophies, and adds), you can also spend points here. In addition to spending points here, you can also spend FP’s in Akem’s Gamble, Mandy’s Blood Magic, the Avatar Shop, and Mastering abilities. Personally, I think that the best use of FP’s is the Avatar shop when they have the 1/2 price sale, and then maybe buying LE abilities. Everything else can be achieved through patience. There’s also a link to Blood Magic where you can see which spells are currently active on you, and to spin the wheel again. There’s also a link to the Crypt, which shows you how many locks you’ve opened (this can also be seen on the Coffin page).
  20. Help – A simple FAQ to get you started, the Zynga VW ToS, a link to the VW Forum, and Zynga’s Support site.
  21. Your Coffin, or home page…
Your News Updates tells you if you’ve been attacked, hit listed, helped anyone, if your clan members need help on a mission, etc. I go through the feed, deal with the items as needed, and then delete the news when I know I’m caught up.

You can buy the LE ability here (or on the Elder Council page).
You can see how you’re doing on Akem’s chest.
The mailing list will get you a free Purge Blood ability.
You’ve got links on the Coffin to Blood Magic, Akem’s Gamble, Vampire Santa, as well as your Stats, personal Comments, Edit your Avatar, and Trophies.

Thanks for reading, and I hope some of you find it useful.
