Nintendo is on a rampage against the proliferation of the Pokemon fan made MMO. Pokenet was one of the unfortunate casualty in Nintendo’s bid to protect the Pokemon Franchise. The developers received a ceased-and-desists notice which ordered them to take down their website and surrender the pokedev.org domain name for unauthorized use of Nintendo trademark. The developers were left with no choice but to shut down the game on April 1st.
Nushio was one of the programmers of the Pokenet project. He mentioned that over 7,000 players logs in the game. Players can catch, evolve and trade pokemon. The developers even shell out $80 bucks per month (for 24 months) for hosting since they expect monetary gain in the project. With so many other Pokemon MMO existing on the internet, Nushio was baffled why Nintendo choose to go after the Pokenet. The future of the Pokenet source code is still up in the air since most developers already gave up on the project.

The developers may remember me as Awkwards the great. I continuously reported them as pirates to Nintendo.;)
